This past weekend, I saw “Five Year Engagement” with Jason Segel and Emily Blunt.
I was a little nervous going in, hoping it wouldn’t be like “Wanderlust” (awful) and much to my chagrin, it wasn’t. There were a solid amount of funny parts, and it was nice to see Rhys Ifans (Replacements) in a newer movie.
It started out great and even though there were some parts that lagged and drug on, it ended up being pretty funny as a whole. It was nice to see Emily Blunt and her sister (in the movie) having a serious convo in Elmo and Cookie Monster lingo in front of Emily Blunt’s 5 year old niece.
What’s funny is that even from my girlfriend’s perspective, she thought that it was Emily Blunt’s character that was being selfish and was routing for Jason Segel’s character as much as I was. It was refreshing to see her rout for the guy who did bend over backward to try to do the right thing for his fiancée.
It’s a great date movie but I wouldn’t make it a first or second date movie, your relationship should be a few months along before you go see it with your sweetie. If you’re married, you’ll dig it.
