Recently dubbed the new face of Chanel, fashion seems to come effortlessly to the Barbadian goddess. Unfortunately, Rihanna did not strike gold when it came to the debut of her fashion line River Island collection at London Fashion Week last month. Onlookers grew antsy with anticipation of the release, but were met with lackluster fulfillment. The critiques came in and they were not pretty.

"Rihanna’s collection for River Island as brought forth in London tonight was a horror show,” wrote The Daily Beast.

Here were some of the factors why River Island left fashion connoisseurs with a bad taste in their mouth.

  •  Rihanna was late to her nine minute fashion show
  • The clothing was a little too risqué and not for the typical fashionable girl
  • The clothing was too "90’s inspired." I can agree with this one. How much mesh, baywatch inspired one piece bathing suits and floral print can one person take? But this is some what of Rihanna's style and usually a clothing line represents who the designer is.
  • The River Island show wasn’t part of the “offical” London Fashion Week lineup.
  • Rihanna technically did not design the clothes. According to Vogue UK, the singer worked with designer Adam Selman via email and phone calls and then attended fittings after samples were made. Now this I can’t really fault Rihanna for simply because a lot of celebrities do this. She’s a busy woman can you blame her?

Well it sounds like Rihanna may want to go back to the drawing board on this note. If you want to take a look at Rihanna’s clothing check it out here... River Island Debut.
